Golden Hawks Battle for 3-0 Victory Over Stars

Nov. 19, 2008
The ESS Bantam Golden Hawks travelled to Markham Stouffville on a snowy night to face the Markham Stouffville Stars for the 4th time this season. The Hawks started very slowly and did not seem to be in the game in the first period. In the second period their game picked up, but the Markham goalie tunred away all shots until 2 minutes left in the period, Sinead scored on a rebound, assisted by Kady and Melissa. The Hakws scored 2 more goals in the third period to make the final 3-0. Jessica took a nice feed from Jocelyn to make the score 2-0. The final goal was scored by Kady, set up by a nice low point shot from Holly. It was good to see the girls get creative and score good goals against a very tough goalie. Lizzie earned the shutout. Kitchener Fallfest Results

Nov 16th, 2008
The ESS Bantam C Golden Hawks competed in their 2nd tournament of the season. The team put in a great effort but were knocked out in the semi finals in overtime. The team played well defensively only giving up 2 goals in 4 games. However they had a tough time generating offence too. They only managed 2 golas of their own in 4 games

The Golden Hawks had a 1-1-1 record in the round robin, which landed them in 2nd place in their pool. The crossover game saw them facing Clarington, the top team in the other pool. It was an even game. The game was scoreless through regulation. On the first shift of overtime, Clarington jumped on a loose puck and whacked away at the rebound until it finally crossed the line.

Golden Hawks Drop a Game to Leaside

Nov. 9, 2008
The ESS Bantam Golden Hawks faced the Leaside Wildcats for an early battle for second place. The game was a back and forth affair with neither team generating any chances in the first period. Leaside got on the board early in the 2nd period. Sydney tied it up after some aggressive penalty killing, just as the penalty expired. Leaside got the game winner on a nice shot from a 2 on 1 rush in the third period. The Golden Hawks battled hard for the equalizer, with their goalie pulled, but could not get the puck to the net. The Golden Hawks held a slight advantage in shots of 13-11 in the game that did not have many scoring chances (Game Stat Sheet)
Winner of the Tonnie Board: Lori Arlidge

Golden Hawks Win Against Storm

Nov. 8, 2008
In the second league game of the season, the ESS Golden Hawks faced the North York Storm at home. The Golden Hawks started slowly but improved as the game went on. The scoreless tie was broken half way through the 2nd period by Jocelyn. Sydney put Georgina up 3-0 by scoring a goal in the 2nd and one in the 3rd period. Kady scored the next two goals for the Golden Hawks to polish off a 5-0 victory. Scoring for the Georgina; Kady (2G, 1A), Sydney (2G), Jocelyn (1G), Sinead (2A), Katelyn (2A), Kayla (1A), and Nicolette (1A). Steph earned her first complete game shutout of the season

The Golden Hawks have excelled defensively with only 8 goals scored against in 14 games. It is a tribute to the strong goaltending, and also the leadership provided by our defence. A nice bonus is that all the defence get involved on the offensive side too. While they may not get on the scoresheet every game, the defence of Robin, Nicolette, Holly, and Katelyn, provide confidence to the whole team with their solid play. (Game Stat Sheet)
Winner of the Tonnie Board: Joe
